Moderation

Greetings from Music City!!!  If you have never been to Nashville, you might want to add it to your list of places to see!  Of course, I am a little biased, but it is a fun place to visit, great people, great food, lots to do and see.  People are warm and friendly here, with a little music industry funkiness, and a hip LA vibe from the crossover industry.   You can hear great musicians at almost every club in town and there are always free concerts at the park on the river in the summer.  If you like great music and good food, you gotta get yourself to Nashville!!!

Being here always reminds me of my grandmother (maternal) who passed away a couple of years ago.  She was a staunch believer in “all things in moderation” and lived her life that way until well into her 90’s.  For her, moderation meant an occasional glass of wine or daiquiri (she kept them frozen in her freezer), a little exercise, usually calisthenics on her floor, very small portions of food and a small dessert every day.  She had her system of moderation which worked for her, but would not work for most people.  I really do not know many people who can eat a half of a Reese’s peanut butter cup and save the other half for later!  The point is, she figured out what worked for her, and it really worked.  She looked and felt great until a few years before she died at 96.  Figuring out a system of eating and exercising that works for your body and is sustainable over time is a wonderful gift to give to yourself.  Moderation to one person can be entirely different from another.  We all need to define what moderation means for our body type, our body chemistry, and our health.  Maybe moderation means following the 80-20 rule (80 % of the time eat clean and 20% eat and drink what you want), or maybe it means eating small portions, or maybe it means something else.  Without our health, our quality of life is greatly diminished, so give yourself the gift of health, take care of your mind, body and soul – it will be one gift worth the time and effort!!!
