First of all, I sure hope you all are having a fabulous weekend full of good times, healthy food, moving and exercising your bodies, some relaxation, and lots of sleep/recovery!!! This poster about body image made me think of the Dove ad that went viral last week. If you did not see the Dove commercial, I thought it was great!. Here is the link if you want to take a look.
Too often we compare ourselves to others or to an ideal that has been determined and altered by the media. As I look around at the beautiful women and men that I train every day, I am taken aback by how fabulous you all look. You are truly beautiful inside and out. You are smart, funny, interesting, charming, kind, compassionate, helpful, amazing people and you all look far younger than the DMV thinks you are, and you show up every week and work hard to give your bodies one, two, or three challenging workouts, not to mention what you are doing on your own. You guys make my job a joy and pleasure everyday!! I hope you will all keep coming back and bring a friend or two with you!!
Please pass this poster on to your sons and daughters if they are old enough to appreciate it. As I read about the negative side of Instagram for our tweens and teens and how they are placing their entire self worth in the number of “likes” they get for their photos, I am saddened at just how much the media and social media can be used to tear people down instead of validating them for what they do or who they are. It was difficult enough when I was younger to feel good about yourself, I cannot imagine adding social media on top of an already rocky time.
